If My Dinosaur Life has a theme it’s about a breakup and whether Motion City Soundtrack singer Justin Pierre really wants to care about it. On opener “Worker Bee”—a blast of Blink-182 riffs (whose Mark Hoppus produced this album)—he sings, “It went from no good to fucked up to over.” Later, on “Her Words Destroyed My Planet,” he shrugs off the pain, telling an ex, “I finally shaved off my beard/Sold my Xbox to Jimmy down the street/I even stopped smoking weed” while wild synths and guitars back him up. The Weezer-ish “Motherfuckers” is a rocker in which Pierre lifts a middle finger to bullies and warns, “You need to leave me and my sensitive homeboys alone.” You’ve been warned.
The most prolific era of the American muscle car started in 1970, when growling engines, screeching tires, and acrid blue smoke were lit in the night by the glow of a thousand red taillights. 1970 was also the year the original Dodge Challenger was introduced. And while its place in muscle car history could be argued ad nauseam over a sea of Pabst Blue Ribbon cans, the Dodge Challenger made its rep exactly as its name suggests—by bullying its way through a pack dominated by Mustang, GTO, Camaro, Chevelle SS, and even its own big brother, the Dodge Charger.
Astronomers use the term metallicity to describe the amount of “metal” (elements besides hydrogen and helium) in a star, but we think it could also describe Austin Sherbanenko’s Odyn Vovk. The line’s clothes look to be fashioned for a futuristic motorcycle gang that also happens to play Nordic death metal and attends Milan Fashion Week. Odyn Vovk (translation: one wolf) is just plain dripping with metal.
Above Benny Gold’s desk there is a flash set by tattoo artist Scott Althen that is “inspired by subtle jokes and popular icons” from Gold’s eponymous brand. Althen and Gold attended the same art college and now, instead of working for the man in graphic design, they are their own bosses—one a tattooist and the other an influential street clothing designer who has collaborated with Nike, Huf, and JanSport.
Daniel and Jonathan Feldman dreamed up a line that’s as American as apple pie, soul music, and blue jeans. Their New American Classics line is an ode to denim. The fabric “was worn in the early days by cowboys and stylized decade after decade by the modern man,” Daniel says. Although the company has only been in existence for a few years and their style is fresh, the fabrics are woven with an old soul.
Dreamed up by Fahrani Empel and Miles Pitt, Cast Eyewear is a funky-chic line of shades that uses shapes and colors no other designers would dare to. “My passion for eyewear was the first thing that inspired me to do what I do. Then, in the process of creating it, I got my inspirations from everything that surrounds me—people, environments, vibes, energies, anything, you call it,” Empel says.
