Name: Adam Alt
What is your job?
Experimental percussionist and drummer in Interscope Records band Street Drum Corps (www.streetdrumcorps.com).
What social causes are most important to you?
Music for Relief
Save our ocean
What charities do you support?
Music for Relief
Why do you have a passion for this one in particular, is there a personal tie?
Street Drum Corps has been involved with Music for Relief since we toured with Linkin Park a few years ago on the Project Revolution Tour. We were immediately impressed by LP’s charity and got involved to help in anyway we could. On Projekt Rev, we performed street percussion sets by the Music For Relief booth in order to draw people over and also did signings at the booth. At the moment we are using Music for Relief’s resources to help the people of the Nashville floods by auctioning off the bike that our singer Bobby Alt rode in the 30 Seconds to Mars short film called “The Ride.” The link to the auction is below. We will also be auctioning signed drumsticks, our signature drumheads and more to help those affected by the Nashville floods.
SDC has also been involved over the years supporting Animals Right with the help from our friends PETA.
Is there a particular way you would want to encourage readers to be involved?
All it takes is a little common sense and a little time, effort and caring. Do some research online about the charities you’d like to get involved with to learn more. One more person being aware is one step closer to a better planet.
Have you done a song about this topic, or dedicated a song to a charity?
Yes. SDC worked with singer Bert McCracken from The Used to cover John Lennon’s song “Happy X-Mas (War is Over).” All proceeds were donated to children who don’t have music programs in their schools. We had the opportunity and honor to play the song live for Yoko Ono.
How would you define social responsibility?
Everyone should be doing their part to help our planet stay clean, and help our kids grow up in safe environment. It’s our job as human beings to take care of our home. Who else is gonna do it?
Do you have any tattoos that relate to your social/charitable beliefs/work?
My skull and cross-sticks tattoo represents this the best. Each SDC band member has this same skull and cross-sticks tattoo, which represents a pledge to stay true to our beliefs and to each other and our music. Bobby, Frank & I are united by our tattoo.
