Songbird: Kendra Morris
New York-based singer-songwriter, Kendra Morris, is not only nice on the eyes but on the ears as well. Her unique, soulful sound is as addicting as the beautiful array of ink she has decorated her skin with. In five questions, Inked is introduced to Miss Kendra Morris.
What’s your favorite song?
I don’t exactly have a favorite song.. It changes daily. But one of the many would have to be Parliament- All Your Goodies Are Gone.
What’s your favorite tattoo?
Favorite piece of ink on myself would be the bird illustration half sleeve on my right arm by Amanda Wachob.
And your least favorite tattoo?
That would be the small blue kitten on my left hip. I got it on spring break in Miami when I was 18.. Haha I think that says it all. I remember scrubbing it in the bathtub because I thought that’s what you were suppose to do after getting a tattoo.
Who is your biggest musical Inspiration?
My biggest inspiration musically is Phil Spector and his wall of sound. I love reverb and layers and layers of vocals.
When your not performing your…
One of my favorite things to do when I’m not performing or writing is scouring flea markets looking for weird things to cram into my tiny apartment in the east village. I also love making collages out of the old nature books, old school text books and vintage porn I collect.
Continuing her ongoing series of covers, Kendra Morris reimagines Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning,” produced by Jeremy Page. Listen to it Here. Kendra’s debut album, “Banshee,” will be released by Wax Poetics Records on August 28, 2012.
