Artists: Aaron Anthony Buckholtz
What year did you start tattooing: 2011
Do you have any special training: I started training under my dad Jason Buckholtz who has been tattooing since the early 90's, and have been diligently studying under him for almost five years now.
Tell us about the style of your work: I love tattooing in general. I love American traditional, and how specific the proportions, and placement of the designs. I also enjoy linework a lot so that is a great way to show consistent lines. Japanese is also another style I respect. I am going to focus on that more this year to accomplish some stronger Japanese painting and tattoos.
Conventions usually worked: Since I started apprenticing under my dad we've gone to the Seattle tattoo expo every year together. Recent went to the Shelton tattoo expo. My favorite so far which is the Northern Arizona tattoo fest. And our last stop of the year is the Three Rivers tattoo convention in Kennewick.
Where did you apprentice?: Ink city tattoo.
What tattoo artist do you most admire: Besides My dad Jason, Fip Buchanan at Avalon 2 in north park San Diego.
Before someone gets a tattoo what advice do you give them?: I usually recommend eating food and drinking some water before coming in. A good nights sleep, and to relax and go with the flow. Breathing is always key.
How did you get into tattooing: Looking up to my dad all these years motivated me to ask for an apprenticeship when I was of age.
What inspires you to be an artist: Our clients, my friends, and the people around me tattooing.
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing: I look forward to tattooing custom designs. Geared towards traditional/ Japanese tattoos. At the same time it's refreshing to tattoo a couple Pinterest designs as funny as that sounds.
Is there a tattoo that you haven't done yet that you are dying to do: There's a few tattoo designs I have tacked up at my station. One in particular is a bulldog-rose morph. Me and my dad did a split sheet of flash and I did my side, he did his and I am ready to tattoo it!
