What year did you start tattooing?
I started tattooing in 1998.
How did you get into tattooing?
I met a guy who moved to Florida to open a studio; we got along, he moved in with me. At some point I was
showing him some old art from high school, and he simply said, “Hey, you should tattoo.” That was pretty much it—the beginning of the end!
Where did you apprentice?
Here in Tampa, FL, with Jason Pegg.
Do you have any special training?
I have been trained in the art of dance, and karaoke … these are skills I take very seriously.
What conventions have you worked at?
Oh, wow … Tampa, Philly, Baltimore, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Denver, L.A., San Francisco, South Florida, Jax, Richmond, Calgary, Amsterdam, Orlando, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Columbus, Asbury Park, Phoenix. I think there may be more, and most of these I have worked for multiple years.
Have you won any awards?
Yep, I have a decent, modest collection, about 25 to 30.
How do you describe your style?
Uh, photorealism, portrait, color realism?
What inspires you as an artist?
Music, art history, the news, my children, my wonderful wife-to-be.
What sets you apart from other artists?
Ha! Skill level, at times; charisma; a Speedo; and the karaoke thing.
What other mediums do you work in?
AIl. I paint and draw with all sorts of shit.
What tattoo artists do you admire most?
Mark Longenecker, Troy Timpel, Bob Tyrrell, and more, all for different reasons.
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing?
All of them, from a portrait to a sweet “script name.”
Is there anyone that you would like to tattoo?
Bobby, and Patrick Swayze, but it’s too late for Pat.
Before someone gets a tattoo, what advice do you give them?
Don’t get tribal, research the right artist, don’t get tattooed with saving money in mind, don’t get tattooed in some hack’s house.
Is there a tattoo that you haven’t done yet that you are dying to do?
A sweet Slipknot S, because it’s retarded. But I finally got one, ha!
