Artists: Amber R. Allen
What year did you start tattooing: 2005
Tell us about the style of your work: I enjoy tattooing all styles of art, including coverups. I work in a college town so being a well-rounded artist is very profitable.
Where did you apprentice?: I started tattooing at Shenanigans Tattoo in Auburn, Al and am self taught. I worked there as a piercer and on the side practiced tattooing on pig ears dilligently every day for 8mo. My boss was impressed with my work and gave me a shot. I have watched and learned from so many tattooers, adapting my skill from those around me.
What tattoo artist do you most admire: There are too many to mention. There are so so many talented tattooers out there.
Before someone gets a tattoo what advice do you give them?: Do your research and choose wisely when picking a tattoo artist. Look at portfolios.
How did you get into tattooing: Ive been into art since I was in 2nd grade and have been doing piercings since I was old enough to do so. At that time I thought I was going to be a graphic designer and graduated from a 2 year tech school doing just that. After piercing professionally for over 5 years it was just a natural thing for me to progress to tattooing. I gave it a shot and have loved it ever since.
What inspires you to be an artist: Out of the ordinary things like machines, nature, geometrical shapes, and anatomy.
Is there a tattoo that you haven't done yet that you are dying to do: Super big geometrical, optical illusion type tattoo. Also one that I dont necessarily want to do but would love to do as a challenge would be portraits (black/grey).
