Artists: Barry Barnes
What year did you start tattooing: 2008
Tell us about the style of your work: My style is a little bit of everything, I enjoy doing any style and I like a challenge!
Where did you apprentice?: Didn't really have the opportunity to get a apprentiship !
What tattoo artist do you most admire: Quite a few if I'm honest and to many to mention :)
Before someone gets a tattoo what advice do you give them?: I would probably ask what's the reason behind the person wanting a tattoo, if they choose me to do their tattoo then I would make sure they are 100% happy with there tattoo choice and if they are not I will work with them until they are happy with the design, a very important factor of advice would be pick a artist that suits your tattoo, look at his or her tattoo work they have done and if it's good enough for you then you have probably found the tattooist for the job :), also cleanliness of the tattoo studio/room, have a look around make sure your happy with where you are, I would talk through with the client about keeping the tattoo clean and the whole process of the tattoo stages to make sure the client is fully aware of all risks of infection.
How did you get into tattooing: I had a few tattoos done by some tattooists in shops and I didn't get the tattoo results I wanted so I spoke to a tattooist about this and got a few pointers and a little advice and it started from there really, if I was let down by tattooists already in shops then I wanted to give people the opportunity to get what they want instead of being let down, it's nice that a few people have come to me wanting coverups done then seeing them happy with the results, makes me happy and that means I have done a good job.
What inspires you to be an artist: Wanting to improve all the time inspires me, I'm never happy, always wanting a few more hours to work on a tattoo.
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing: I love doing portraits, faces, realism anything really as long as it's not tribal, unless I can put my spin on it :)
Is there a tattoo that you haven't done yet that you are dying to do: I really can't wait for someone to come and book in for a gorilla portrait or maybe a elephant !
