What year did you start tattooing?
I started tattooing the summer of 2001.
How did you get into tattooing?
I was always good at drawing, and I thought it would be a good way to continue doing what I loved and make some money. I was lucky to meet tattooists that thought I was good enough and gave me a chance.
Where did you apprentice?
At a small shop in Camden Town called Cosmo Tattoo – it is no longer there.
What conventions have you worked at? Have you won any awards?
My first convention was Brighton with Magnum Opus Tattoo. I won the flash competition there. In England I have worked at the Liverpool convention, Tattoo Jam in South Wales ,and State of the Art in Derbyshire. In Europe I’ve been in Rome, Milan, Berlin , Stockholm, and most recently Copenhagen convention. Internationally I have been to Southern Exposure in Cape Town and San Jose.
What inspires you as an artist?
I am really inspired by nature, architecture as well as other artists. I like to take time off as often as I can to travel and get exposed to different things.
What other mediums do you work in?
Mostly pencil colors. I have done oil painting in the past, but it is really time consuming and I don’t have the space for it anymore. I’d like to learn to use watercolor next.
What tattoo artist’s do you admire most?
At the moment I really like the work of Lars Uwe (Berlin) and Adam Barton (Santa Cruz, CA)
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing?
Some things are always fun to tattoo for me, like flowers or skulls, but I really like it when I get asked to do something I haven’t done before or that is a bit unusual – keeps it interesting. I recently was asked to tattoo a dodo with a walking stick, and i really enjoyed it.
Before someone gets a tattoo what advice do you give them?
Relax and enjoy
