Artists: Matt Lang
What year did you start tattooing: 2005-01-01
Do you have any special training: None at all, I tried out karate for about 2 and a half minutes though.Art wise? The people and other artist's i surrounded and surround myself with gave me what i consider special traing.
Conventions usually worked: I have only worked 2 conventions in my career, the first was the Chattanooga tattoo and arts, where i took home 2nd place best in show. And the second was the tampa show where i only took home my equipment and an empty pocket. I'm pretty rooted for the time being with my daughter just being over a year old, selfishly i would love to do 1 a month but realistically it will be a few more years before i can hit conventions hard.
Where did you apprentice?: In metro Atlanta under an ex crack head biker that had carpet floors in the shop. Not a single complaint though, i wouldnt have my career without him.
What tattoo artist do you most admire: too many, but i get to work with Mike parsons everyday for the past 3 years and i've never seen him skimp in the slightest on any tattoo he does no matter the subject matter and i admire that greatly. Also alot of the "old timers" i admire alot like Doc Dog, Zeke Owen and Bowery Stan for everything they put into tattooing and the industry and there still at it strong today.
Before someone gets a tattoo what advice do you give them?: It's more of a question than advice, it usually goes "are you sure you want me to do this? i might fuck it all up?"
How did you get into tattooing: Probably the same story as 90 percent of tattooers, but to put it simply i just asked for an apprenticeship.
What inspires you to be an artist: Life observations and mistakes.
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing: non recycled imagery that withstands time by proper application, something truly unique without the possibility of it turning into a 6 month dying fad. Don't get me wrong i am in no way "above" doing those types of pieces but, the ones i enjoy the most are the ones that are going to remain original....... but realistically that probably wont happen.
Is there a tattoo that you haven't done yet that you are dying to do: a stick figure face mural
