What year did you start tattooing?
How did you get into tattooing?
I grew up in an environment where lot of people were tattoed and as soon as I knew how to fix ink under the skin I started…. It was by hand at this time… In 1996, I met a guy that gave me the adress of Micky scharpz in England… I immediatly went there to buy my first machine and started to work with machine at the same time…
Where did you apprentice?
What conventions have you worked at? Have you won any awards?
I did NYC, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and many more…. and I am currently sharing my time between France where I am living and London, Berlin and NYC. And every tattoo, as soon as my customer say “waow”, is an award for me… I do not use to do contest, so I never got personaly any award as I never present any tattoo!!!!
How do you describe your style?
I can define it as a mix of singular art and abstract art…. I like to write “love” stories, so this is a main part of my work… And love is everywhere, so I have not finish to tell all of them….
What inspires you as an artist?
Lot of things…. I am really in love with all the abstract movement Picasso, braques, I am a great fan of Fernand Leger… I like also Jean dubuffet… I am a great fan of primary art or African art…. All the art brut or “art singulier” french movement too… I am really curious and I love art generally speaking…. So I am picking up mostly everywhere…..
What other mediums do you work in?
I use to paint also…
What tattoo artist’s do you admire most?
I must first reference my friend Lionel- out of step. We started tattoing at the same time and we have pretty the same vision of the tattoo. And also our friend Yann Black that is now working in Montreal that opened this door where we went together with lionel… I have a lot of respect for tattoists that develop their own way as guy aitchinson, Bugs, Xed le head, Paul booth… that were our reference when I started 15 years ago…. and show us that we can go our way too…. By the new generation, I like the work of Lea Nahon, Xoil, Buena vista tattoo club, Jeff ensminger, Amanda Wachob, Diedo Brandi, Ondrash to tell just some of my prefered ones… but there are many others….
What kind of tattoos do you look forward to doing?
