Artist Presents Visual Tattoo Memoir

WRITER Maya Phillips

LA painter/tattoo artist Shawn Barber goes meta with a collection of paintings depicting tattooing...aka, art depicting art. In anticipation of his new book, Barber opens his "Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series" exhibition at New York's Joshua Liner Gallery. Barber's Tattooed Portraits Series started in 2005 as a visual memoir depicting 6 years of the tattoo process. The 256-page hardcover will contain photos, essays, and paintings which feature popular contemporary artists. The Joshua Liner Gallery exhibition is featuring over 20 oil-on-canvas paintings by Barber that can be seen in the book. The exhibition will run from June 28 to July 28 and the book is set for publication on September 1, 2012.
