Ask Mary :: Unforgettable Past

WRITER Maryhelen Guadiana

My girlfriend has the name of her ex boyfriend tattooed on her wrist and it makes me nauseous when I look at it. Can I ask her to remove it or cover it or get it removed? (Mikey, 32, Hoeboken, NJ)

That all depends on how serious your relationship is and realistically how long the two of you have been together. If you’ve gone on a few dates and the thought of her with other guys already makes you nauseous; you need to back the truck up and check yourself on that one. If the two of you have been together for a bit and are getting serious or are already in some kind of commitment I think its perfectly acceptable to ask her to get it removed. Or even offer to give her a cover up as a gift. Just approach with caution! Don’t make it a marking of territory kind of deal, make sure she knows how much you value having her exclusively in a loving way not in a creepy possessive way.

If you've got relationship questions, Mary has got your answers. Submit your questions to askmary@inkedmag.com for a chance for your questions to be answered.
