Duff Goldman Opens New Cake Shop In Los Angeles

WRITER Jill Marino

Los Angeles is about to be covered in icing thanks to Duff Goldman.

The baker, famous for his stunning out-of-the-box designs and Food Network show "Ace of Cakes", is opening a new DIY shop called Cakemix. Located next door to his bakery, Charm City Cakes West, Cakemix will allow customers to let their inner artist come out and decorate cakes or cupcakes.

"This is something that's different and fun and cool. For the cost of movie tickets and popcorn and a soda you can hang out and do a cake with your kids," Goldman said of the endeavor.

After choosing a specific flavor of cake, customers can then let their imagination do all the work. Using fondant or buttercream as a canvas and a set of decorating supplies, they will then be able to decorate their creation with sprinkles, jellybeans, and even cake tattoos. Those looking to go a little further in their design can bring their cake to the airbrush station and apply custom graffiti.

Goldman's cake tattoos will even be a part of a new line of branded products that he is working on. Because in the end, it's all about the customer and seeing their work come alive.

"I want people to not only have fun, but to learn something, to see they can do something amazing and fun and creative and be successful at it," he said.

Sounds like a sweet deal.
