"Living Art" Tattoo Exhibit Showcases Art And Models

WRITER Jill Marino

The Mistlin Gallery in Modesto, California will be hosting the exhibit "Living Art: Tattoo Show" through July. Drawings and paintings will be on display as the artists who created the work discuss tattooing styles and origins.

The concept was created by April Gutierrez, who is a volunteer docent for the gallery. As someone with tattoos, she saw the potential in what the exhibit could do when being viewed by the public.

"I want people to know tattoos are not just for thugs and gangs and people in prison. I'm a member of the PTA at my kids' school," she said.

Four local tattoo studios will be on hand at the event (Eternal Light, Think Ink, Paper Planes, and Unbound). This week, as part of the Third Thursday Art Walk, there will be models participating to talk about the tattoos that they have.

The show will run through July 26th and admission is free.
