Finally, the 2012 London Olympics have begun! Many competitors are commemorating this momentous occasion with a tattoo of the iconic Olympic symbol: the five rings. Getting the ink appears to be an unofficial tradition among the U.S. swimmers. Freestyle sprinter Chris Jacobs is believed to have been the first American swimmer with an Olympic rings tattoo in the 1980s. In 2004, two-time Olympian Dana Vollmer (who was 16 at the time) got her rings, and her parents got their own rings tattoos too. Conor Dwyer, Nicholas Walkotten, Kathleen Hersey, Elizabeth Beisel, and Amy Van Dyken are five more Olympian swimmers with the tat. If you're watching the Olympics this week, see if you can spot any Olympic-styled ink.
