Tennis Players Showcase Tattoos At Wimbledon

WRITER Jill Marino

While their skills are usually the main focus, tennis players competing at Wimbledon this year are also showcasing their various tattoos.

Czech tennis star Karolina Pliskova has two, which were both visible as she competed. The 20-year-old has swirling tribal patterns on both her left arm and left thigh.

Other female players with tattoos include China's Li Na, who despite women in her country not having many tattoos, has a red rose on her chest. Kim Clijsters has her husband's initial on her wedding ring finger. Bethanie Mattek-Sands has flowers and bees adorning her right arm. This is fitting because of her nickname "Bee".

The women weren't violating any rules with their tattoos showing. While Wimbledon rules state that players must be dressed "almost entirely in white", there is no problem with players showing off body ink.

"There might be if they had a huge advertising slogan tattooed across a part of their anatomy... but otherwise not," said a Wimbledon official when asked about it.

Play on!
