What is your job? Animal Behaviorist and Rescuer

What social causes are most important to you?

There are many social causes that keep me up at night, but at the moment, I am focused on the prevention of abuse, neglect and abandonment of animals. I am also passionate about creating a better standard for shelters, rescues and general intermediate care for abandoned animals while they are waiting to be adopted. In the future I hope to expand my work to include animals as tools for recovery and therapy for at- risk youth and adults, as well as for people with disabilities such as autism.

What charity do you support – and how?

I co-founded Lil Monsters, a non-profit no kill animal rescue and shelter

Why do you have a passion for this one in particular, is there a personal tie?

I grew up a “down home country girl” and was always fascinated and involved with animals and nature. Lil Monsters is my way of giving back to the animals that inspire me and teach me hard learned lessons on how to greet each day with a wagging tail!

Is there a particular way you would want to encourage readers to be involved?

Spread the word on animal sheltering alternatives; donate used blankets, sheets towels, pillows, etc. to local rescuing communities in need. Encourage friends and family to adopt from rescues and shelters instead of buying a pet from a breeder or pet store.

How would you define social responsibility?

I define social responsibility as ones obligation to the global and local community to be an active, educated and participating member for the greater good of humanity.

Do you have any tattoos that relate to your social/charitable beliefs/work?

I have a great Phoenix piece on my shoulder. I think that this bird is closely related to my beliefs and work. Working with abused, mistreated, neglected animals is very much a job focused on redemption. It involves bringing animals from ashes to beautiful, healthy pets again. Somehow, these little creatures rose above all their adversity to find loving homes and lead normal lives.
