Inked Girls: Genny xGenocidex
Myself in a sentence: I'm a fun-loving, adventorous free spirit.
Occupation: Alternative model - Burlesque performer - Fire dancer
Hometown: Johannesburg, South Africa
The design and themes of my tattoos: I'm never really that specific with designs because I mostly get a tattoo for the meaning behind it.
So I give my tattooist free reign when it comes to what it looks like.
More specifics about my tattoo: I have an awful lot of flowers for some reason. I have 5 roses, a gladiola, a daisy, more daisies across my chest and 2 lilies as well as a lotus under my belly button
On some level I think this might be because I'm actually allergic to flowers but, at the same time, I love the definitions of flowers, the meanings. I love how something so small and seemingly iinsignificant can hold such a deep meaning and say so much, without you having to say anything at all.
I have a quote along my lower waist "Every sinner has a future. Every saint has a past.
Then I have 2 large anchors on the front of my thighs, which I love dearly. Both carry a banner beneath them, one reading "Never", and the other "Shaken.
More script on my inner left thigh that says "Keep Breathing". It's the name of a song by Ingrid Michaelson that I found to be very inspiring.
On my inner right thigh I have "Always Hope and on the outer side of my right thigh I have a large Disney style mirror with the silhouettes of Cinderella and Prince Charming in it. This tattoo was inspired by the Cinderella quote "For with each dawn she found new hope that, someday, her dreams of happiness would come true.
I also have 2 swallows tattooed on my stomach.
And then of course there's my butterfly.
On the back of my thighs I have "Salvation" on the one side, and "Redemption" on the other.
My favorite tattoo and the story behind it: I have "Tahamul" which the sanskrit word for "Endure", tattooed on my right side.
It's inspired by a passage from one of my favourite books, A Thousand Splendid Suns.
“…There is only one, only one skill a woman like you and me needs in life, and they don’t teach it in school. Look at me.”
“You should not speak like this to her, my child,” Mullah Faizullah said.
“Look at me.”
“Only one skill. And it’s this: tahamul. Endure.”
My next tattoo: My next tattoo will be "Follow your bliss" across my stomach, just under my boobs. It'll serve as a constant reminder for me to follow my dreams, no matter what.
