The design and themes of my tattoos: mythical, animals
My favorite tattoo and the story behind it: My favorite tattoo is my back piece. I traveled to Thailand this year in January for two weeks with my Husband to meet his family. Knowing I'd been wanting a back piece for some time and that this would be a grand adventure and I would want a special keepsake to take home, I thought what better than to get a tattoo from Bangkok!
I did extensive research months in advanced and came across Mr. Tung at his own little shop called Angel Art Tattoo. His work is so unique, I had to have a piece of my own. I booked my appointment for two days back to back, not quite knowing the real pain I was getting myself into.
When we arrived, the atmosphere of his shop was very spiritual and soothing. He and his wife were very humble, fascinating people right off the bat. They offered tea and coffee as we discussed what I wanted.
With Mr. Tung, you give him a concept and he goes from there. I told him I wanted a tiger coming out of the jungle [I am a tiger sign], and he thought about it for a bit and then got to work. He spent a good few hours drawing out the design by hand on my back with a ball point pen. After finishing, he asked me to look in the mirror to see if it's what I wanted or not. I was in awe and all I could say was "WOW!" which he followed with "that's all anyone can ever say" and laughed.
After the decision was made that this was definitely what I wanted, the next three hours were devoted to the outline of the tattoo. Now, I had already had other tattoos of fairly large sizes and knew the kind of pain you have to go through, but it was always tolerable. The back however was a completely new level of pain I hadn't expected. Cringing and teary-eyed, we'd finished the outline and I went home dreading coming back to finish, knowing that the outline was going to be extremely raw the next day.
We came back to finish, and it was another 7 hours of the most excruciating pain of my life! I screamed and cried in the pillow for hours, but it was all well worth it.
My next tattoo: After my experience with Mr. Tung, I would really love to book him again in a future trip to thailand and have him either add to my fairy on my hip, or continue my back piece further down my body.
