Inked Girls: Zan Schaefer
Myself in a sentence: I'm a tattooed twenty-something artist, anarcha-feminist, and introvert wandering around with my head in the clouds adulting as best I can.
Occupation: Events Coordinator and amateur artist
Hometown: Arlington, VA
The design and themes of my tattoos: All but one of my tattoos have been done by the same artist, who specializes in lettering. I love script tattoos and have a lot of words on my body! It's important to me that all my tattoos flow together visually. I want them to look feminine, and natural. All of my tattoos have some kind of deeper meaning to me, often related to bands and books. However, I don't have a lot of rules about what I can and cannot get to "fit" with my overall look.
My favorite tattoo and the story behind it: My favorite tattoo right now is my sternum piece, which is a simple, colorful rose and butterfly. I got it done at the Baltimore Tattoo Convention in April, and I couldn't be happier. It is in honor of "The Year of the Butterfly", which is what I've deemed the past year of my life. I've moved, changed, grown, learned a lot, and met some incredible people in this time, and this tattoo represents that.
My next tattoo: My next tattoo will probably be an anarchy symbol on my forearm. I have an amazing group of anarcha-feminist friends who all want a variation of the symbol, so we plan to do that together.
