Maybach Music Group Press Conference Recap
Taking the podium for the first time since publicly announcing Roc-A-Fella Records 18 years ago, CEO of Recorded Music for Warner Bros. Lyor Cohen introduced Rick Ross at yesterdays Maybach Music Group press conference. This was just the first of a number of surprise speakers at the conference.
“The possibilities that Rick and Maybach Music are going to bring is going to be, in my mind, unprecedented,” said Cohen.
Following Cohen’s introduction of Ricky Rosay, Swizz Beatz took the podium and announced that he and Reebok will be collaborating with the rapper to create a big and tall line.
Diddy was next to take the stage where he praised Ross’ work ethic and thanked him for promoting Ciroc without a deal.
Next Wale came out to announce that he will be releasing Self Made Vol. 2 on June 26. Followed by Meek Mill who revealed his debut album Dreams & Nightmares will be dropping August 28. Ross also announced that his highly anticipated album God Forgives, I Don’t will be hitting stores July 31 and that we will soon be hearing a single.
Then it was finally time for the big reveal, after the initial announcement of the MMG press conference rumors circulated that they would be announcing a partnership with everyone from Mase to Dom Kennedy. To everyone’s surprise the announcement was that Omarion was the latest signing to MMG.
French Montana then joined his label mates to announce the release of his debut album Excuse My French (July 17) and announced the all star lineup for his first single featuring Rick Ross, Drake and Lil Wayne.
Rosay is known for giving his fans a taste of what goes on behind the scenes so it wasn’t too surprising that to close the conference they screened behind the scenes footage of Omarion’s new single “Let’s Talk” that features some Biggie samples.
