Raising Awareness During Childhood Cancer Month
According to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, over 300,000 children are diagnosed per year. Many of these children will undergo chemotherapy, an aggressive treatment that causes hair loss among other symptoms. Losing your hair from cancer is a traumatizing experience, especially for a child who may not have a grasp on what is happening to their body. However, a six-year-old girl named Gabriella decided that it’s time to take the stigma out of hair loss from cancer. A cancer patient herself, Gabriella had maintained her locks throughout 11 weeks of chemotherapy but made the conscious choice to shave her head in solidarity with her peers.
