While Americans are busy dressing up as superheroes and planning the best routes to obtain candy when trick-or-treating Mexicans are celebrating the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos). The holiday is especially important in Mexican culture and serves as an opportunity for families to honor loved ones who have passed. By building altars and dressing up in costume the Day of the Dead has produced a great deal of cultural iconography, check out some of it in the gallery below.
