Tattoos Derail Green Cards

The U.S has been denying an increasing number of Latin American immigrants green cards on the grounds that they possess a security threat. The basis of the claims? Body art that is associated with foreign gangs.

The U.S has denied many immigrants solely based on the possibility of affiliation with the gangs, rather than on the existence of criminal convictions. The number of refused immigrant visas based on the possibility of gang affiliation jumped from a mere 2 in 2006 to 82 in 2010. Lawyers and criminologists say that many of these tattoos, while posessing gang affiliations, have become more mainstream and do not necessarily suggest gang involvement. What do you think?
