The Woodstock Of Edible Animals: Meatopia 2012


Who doesn’t love an end-of-summer celebration with meat and booze? Meatopia, New York City’s annual celebration of meat and drink, takes place in just 2 days on September 8, 2012 at 5:00 PM on Randall’s Island Great Lawn, New York NY 10035.

The event, presented by Whole Foods Market “features the biggest, most ambitious line-up of chefs and meat dish offerings in the history of the event, now in its ninth official year. This will be the most ambitious iteration yet of the so-called “Woodstock of Edible Animals,” with a chef roster drawn from everywhere from Hong Kong to the United States Special Forces,” according to the Meatopia website.

Aside from inked-up featured chef’s Marc Forgione and Sean Brock, to name a few, the celebrity chef roster is mouthwatering. The event will also feature live musical acts, including Woods and The Living Kills, and world-famous mural artist Laurel True creating an interactive meat mural with the crowd. Fans of woodworking and artisan craftmanship will enjoy an interactive experience sponsored by event partner George Dickel Tennessee Whisky called “Raising the Bar.” The experience will feature renowned designer and artist Jimmy Diresta, who will build an entire bar during the event. Attendees can watch the piece take shape, ask questions and chat with Diresta as he hand crafts the bar – a process inspired by George Dickel Tennessee Whisky which is handmade the hard way with an actual human being touching every step of the distillery process.
