I’ve always been super fascinated by it, whether it be the fantastic stories or the badass women who continuously kicked butt. If you’re like me, then you may have considered getting a tattoo of your favorite Greek god or goddess. Or you may have already gone ahead with it! Zeus

Zeus is the god of thunder and the sky who rules Mount Olympus. His Roman equivalent is Jupiter and he’s known for having many affairs, which resulted in a number of divine and heroic offspring.

Aphrodite

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. Her Roman equivalent is Venus and she’s been featured in a number of famous paintings, notably Sandro Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus.”

Athena

Athena is the goddess of wisdom and warfare. Her Roman equivalent is Minerva and she’s believed to have been born out of the top of her father Zeus’s head.

Apollo

Apollo is the god of archery, music and dance, truth, healing, the Sun, poetry and more. His Roman equivalent is also named Apollo and he’s the twin brother of Artemis.

Artemis

Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, the moon and chastity. Her Roman equivalent is Diana and she’s often shown with a bow and arrow.

Ares

Ares is the god of courage and war. His Roman equivalent is Mars and he often represents the violence of war, whereas his sister Athena represents military strategy.

Poseidon

Poseidon is the god of the sea and storms. His Roman equivalent is Neptune and he’s the protector of seafarers.

Hades

Hades is the god of the underworld and the dead. His Roman equivalent is Pluto and he’s often accompanied by his three-headed dog named Cerberus.

Demeter

Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and agriculture. Her Roman equivalent is Ceres and she presides over the cycles of life and death.

Dionysus

Dionysus is the god of wine, insanity, festivity and theater. His Roman equivalent is Bacchus and his cult followers celebrate him by consuming copious amounts of wine.

Hera

Hera is the goddess of women, marriage, family and childbirth. Her Roman equivalent is Juno and she’s known for being vengeful against Zeus’s lovers.

Hermes

Hermes is the messenger of the gods. His Roman equivalent is Mercury and his winged sandals allow him to move quickly between the mortal and divine worlds.

Persephone

Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She became the queen of the underworld after being abducted by Hades and is associated with a pomegranate.

Medusa

Medusa is one of the three monstrous gorgons who’s best known for having snakes for hair and turning men to stone with her stare. She’s best known for appearing in the myth of Perseus, who defeated her by cutting off her head.

Hercules

Hercules is the son of Zeus and is best known for his impressive strength. He was known for his many adventures in mythology, notably his 12 labours.
