Tattoo artist Kalaca Skull has an extreme love for skeletons, and has undergone extreme body modifications to look like a living skull.
22-year-old Eric Yeiner Hincapié Ramírez, tattoos under the artist name Kalaca Skull, has spent two years undergoing extreme body modifications. The goal? To look like living skull. His latest step in his quest: cutting off half of his nose and removing his ears.
But those procedures don’t finalize the transformation.
The tattoo artist has had his tongue split in half and tattooed a blue-grey colour. He has tattooed his face to enhance “skull features,” including black tattooed eye-sockets.
Kalaca Skull was the first person in Colombia to have his nose and ears voluntarily removed. He has shaved his head to reveal his head tattoos and piercings, showcasing his transformation to the world.
The transformation started after his mother's death, but the Colombia native has said he was always fascinated with skulls as a child. Kalaca Skull said he refrained from any body mutilation while his mom was alive, as she wouldn’t have approved.
"Body modifications are a personal decision and should not be judged,” he said. "It is like judging a woman for getting breast or buttock implants.”
Kalaca Skull has plans for further modifications.
Despite his appearance, which Kalaca Skull says attract many stares in public and making strangers uncomfortable, Kalaca insists he is a "normal" person who just happens to look "different".
He insists he hasn’t cut off his nose to spite his face, and that the transformation holds significance for him.
"For me, a skull is like my sister, a part of my family really, I feel very attached to them,” he said. “I just feel good the way I am.”
