David Lee Roth, who, for four decades has serviced our ears, is now servicing our expensive skin.
Van Halen frontman launches skincare line, Ink The Original, to protect and brighten tattoos and keep them from fading. We are thankful David Lee Roth is Hot for ̶T̶e̶a̶c̶h̶e̶r̶ Tattoo Care.
Ink The Original offers a range of products made with organic ingredients, and is committed to being environmentally conscious and cruelty-free.
Roth said, “The product that we’re dealing with now goes hand-in-hand with what I think is the true Esperanto: It’s a language – ink –that everybody shares, especially if you don’t speak the same language.”
Roth explained that much like music, “with ink, we read each other’s signs and icons.”
Roth started Ink The Original “with three of us sitting around an upended plastic bucket for a table at my house in Los Angeles.” Now, he said, “there’s 34 of us and we have offices in New York as well as LA.”
David Lee Roth’s tattoo work includes his chest, upper arms, and his entire back. While he doesn’t want to admit how much he has spent on his tattoos at $300 an hour, he can admit that he wants the best products to protect the investments he has made for his skin.
The passion project was created out of his dissatisfaction with the aftercare options on the market.
Oil-based products, like sunscreen, reflects. Roth wants people to show off their work, not blind passerbys.
Also, the side grips on the packaging are intentional, but not for design. The grips are with purpose, so you can “easily pull out the SPF stick and use it when you’re rock-climbing.” This is a David Lee Roth pastime.
The products that make up the Ink The Original line: SPF stick ($28); an SPF spray ($24 and up); and a tattoo-brightening balm with vitamin C ($40).
