Here's one of those times where what is happening is actually as bizarre as what the picture implies! Are these people actually sticking their hands directly inside a cow's stomach? And if so why? Does this hurt the animal?

Okay we will answer all three of those very valid questions and a few more equally as strange. Plus, you'll be pleased and horrified to know, yes there will be more pictures of cows with a gaping holes in their bodies and humans with their arms elbow deep inside the cow's body.

What the Hell is This?

Technically it is known as a rumen fistula (the medical term for a permanent hole between an internal organ and the outside world), which in this case translates to mean a permanent hole in a cow's stomach. The fistula is created via a surgical procedure and then lined with a rubber cover known as a cannula. The cannula keeps the opening sanitary.
