The 57th Grammy Award Ceremony was filled with surprises. Beyonce lost the coveted "Album of the Year" to Beck's dark horse Morning Phase. This led to Kanye West again trying to upstage someone's "Thank You" speech when they beat Queen Bey. Pop punk rockers Paramore and even metal heads Tenacious D both walked away with awards. And Iggy Azalea totally owned a hairstyle reminiscent of a bird's nest. But out of every bizarre or unexpected moment at last night's award ceremony, our top pick had to go to Grammy nominees Mastodon. The heavy metal rockers best known for their triumph with the 2004 album Leviathan were up for up for "Best Metal Performance" last night for their track "High Road." Though the four-piece lost to Jack Black's infamous metal duo Tenacious D, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds and drummer Brann Dailor easily won best dressed (at least by our standards) on the red carpet.
Dailor showed up decked out from head to toe in a full birthday suit. No, not his actual birthday suit, he was rocking a nice tailored suit covered with birthday balloon patterning that could only be paired with a bright green frilled shirt and matching shiny green shoes. Dailor was accompanied by the equally well-dressed Brent Hinds. Hinds decided it was time to reveal his alter-ego as he walked the red carpet dressed as Adrian Gonzalez, the first basemen for the LA Dodgers. The jokesters of the metal world are known for their comical antics and 2014 was no exception. After releasing a semi-parody video of Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" and performing on Letterman with Binds in full 70s rocker gear (afro and all) it is only suiting that Mastodon truly redefined "suiting up" at such a high profile award ceremony. If we could give them an award for flashiest entrance at the 2015 Grammys, we definitely would.
