Face Tattoos, Drugs, and Teenage Angst—Meet the SoundCloud Artists Mixing Punk With Hip-Hop

These Artists Are Changing the Game

Over the past few years, a new breed of rappers have broken into the mainstream hip-hop world. They're known as "SoundCloud artists," because they were able to develop a following on the streaming site and transition to the national charts. And while they may differ stylistically, they're often regarded as punk/emo crossover artists—often coming from the hardcore scene of the mid-late 2000s. Once kept separate, the punk/emo and rap communities have become a booming hybrid subgroup. These artists have proved that they can stand amongst more traditional artists and we can expect that there will be plenty more inked up artists of this movement in the future.
