Today’s skull of the day is this breathtaking piece by A.D. Pancho. The artist best known for his surrealism pieces toned his aesthetic down a bit for this fun floral skull piece, instead making something a bit more traditional imagery wise, and we couldn’t be more impressed!
We love the watercolor style Pancho incorporated with this realistic skull, making it look as if the skull is emerging from a painting rather than appearing painted on as the flowers, leaves and background suggest. The color palette and saturation rendered in this piece are stunning. The blue tones contrasted to the warm hues found in the skull’s eyes make the piece pop against the client’s skin and feel almost like they are jumping out at the viewer. These amazing colors are so well saturated that they are sure to last the client a lifetime! Even with such a straight forward image, Pancho is capable of adding subtle surrealist touches to his work.
Pancho is great at playing with dimensions as the flowers above feel more two-dimensional in comparison to the great amounts of depth implied in the skull itself. Pancho may be known for his gorgeous surrealism, but when he tones it back in order to bring about a very elegant, stylized tattoo, he shines just as much.
