The latest episode of SullenTV’s Portfolio Peek takes you into the delightfully twisted mind of Jesse Levitt. Hailing from upstate New York, Levitt creates some of the sickest tattoos of monsters and other creepy creatures we’ve ever seen.
“My favorite style of tattooing is freehand black and grey work,” Levitt says. “A lot of bio-organic stuff, creature design and skulls. Anything evil, really.”
After spending a childhood of drawing with pencils it was an easy transition to take up black and grey tattooing.
“I have always been a fan of black and grey artwork, especially when it comes to tattooing,” Levitt says. “I grew up drawing primarily with pencils so I was never really into using color in my artwork. When I got into tattooing I already had a large body of work that was all black and grey so I kind of knew where things were going. When I work in black and grey I feel like I have more time to work on the detail and push the boundaries of what I am actually drawing, instead of worrying about color schemes and saturating the skin to the level that color work requires.”
In the video Levitt explains how he rarely uses any sort of source material when coming up with his ideas—his vivid imagination is all that he needs. Once your done watching the video head on over to Levitt’s Freshly Inked profile to check out more of his tattoos.
