Rihanna and Drake Fuel Relationship Rumors with Matching Shark Tattoos
Drake and Rihanna had the rumor mill working overtime last week, first when the rapper professed his love for RiRi while presenting her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award at the MTV VMA Awards on August 28, and then again a few days later, when the two shared an on-the-lips kiss onstage, during the Miami leg of Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour. And, in case you need even more proof before being convinced that Drake and Rihanna’s relationship is official, check out their latest ink; they recently got matching tattoos of a camouflage shark!
Needless to say, Drake and Rihanna have been all over the headlines the past couple of weeks, and it all started with Drake’s speech at the VMA awards. Drake’s speech presenting the Vanguard Award to Rihanna was so dramatic and heartfelt, in fact (he admitted that he’s been in love with RiRi since he was 22 years old), that pretty much everyone expected him to drop to one knee and propose to her right then and there. He didn’t, but he did later put up a billboard congratulating Rihanna on her Vanguard Award, which she then posted a photo of on Instagram, further fanning the flames.
It was on September 1, when celebrity tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy posted to Instagram, that we all saw Rihanna’s latest tattoo – a camouflage shark inked on the top of her left ankle, where her shin meets her foot. Immediately, fans began guessing the significance behind the ink, but in a follow-up interview with Vanity Fair, Bang Bang stayed mum on the meaning behind the ink, saying, “The significance is personal. That’s really all I can say. I’ve seen many people guessing the meaning online, but it’s not my place to share publicly.” During that same interview, Bang Bang revealed that Rihanna’s tattoo had been inked in Drake’s dressing room in Miami.
The Rihanna shark tattoo theory that seemed the most likely was that the ink was inspired by a stuffed camouflage shark Drake got the singer when they shared a midnight dinner date at the aquarium in Toronto, a theory that gained even more momentum when Drake was spotted with a matching shark tattoo on his right arm. It was while performing in New Orleans on September 2, that fans first caught a glimpse of Drake’s new tattoo–an exact replica of the shark ink on Rihanna’s ankle–which was also likely done by Bang Bang in the rapper’s Miami dressing room. Looks like Drake and Rihanna may be sharing smooches offstage as well!
