Scarab Tattoos

At first glance the scarab looks like any other beetle, maybe a little bit tougher than some. But to the ancient Egyptians the scarab was a highly revered symbol of the god Khepri. Every day Ra, the most famous of the Egyptian deities, carried the sun through the sky. When he reached the horizon he would pass it off to Khepri and the scarab/god would take the sun all the way through the other world until the next morning. This is why most depictions of scarabs, from carvings in ancient pyramids to the tattoos in this gallery, are shown carrying an orb.
