From the time that she was very young Hilary Koo struggled with bulimia. In After Bulimia, a short documentary by the Mental Health Channel, Koo explains how she was able to recover from the eating disorder after years battling it. Koo credits three things for helping her get through the struggle—therapy, rediscovering her faith and tattoos.
"I started getting tattoos as a way to document my journey," Koo says in the documentary. "I think of my body as a canvas. Instead of changing it in unhealthy ways I can accept it. I can also put ink and writing and pictures on [my body] in a way that makes it unique and makes it the way I want it to be."
