Mixed martial artist Jonathan Koppenhaver—better known as War Machine—plead not guilty to over 30 charges including a charge of attempted murder in a Las Vegas courtroom on Wednesday. Koppenhaver allegedly attacked and brutally beat two people, including his former girlfriend and INKED cover girl Christy Mack, during an altercation at Mack’s home early in the morning of Aug. 8. If convicted the MMA fighter will be facing life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In addition to the attempted murder count, Koppenhaver is facing charges of strangulation, battery, kidnapping, and sexual assault. Many of these counts are from the incident on Aug. 8 but some of them are from as far back as early 2013. Koppenhaver was the subject of a week-long police manhunt before he was arrested in a hotel room outside of L.A., according to TMZ.
The story made national headlines when Mack released disturbing photos of her injuries and a statement detailing the attack via Twitter as she was recuperating in the hospital. Mack suffered multiple facial fractures, a lacerated liver, two broken ribs, and multiple other injuries during the attack. Koppenhaver’s next court date is on Oct. 17.
