In August of 2018, 36-year-old mother of two Lila DeLine was hit by a car driving 60mph while pulling out of her driveway. The collision snapped her neck and was internally decapitated with her skull becoming detached from her spine. And while this type of injury is typically fatal, through multiple surgeries and many months of specialized therapy relearning how to talk, walk, and swallow, DeLine pulled through.

DeLine credits her husband's quick recovery and the doctor's diligence with saving her life, prompting the survivor to get a tattoo in honor of the man who prevented her paralysis.
