"All right, you primitive screwheads, listen up! This is my BOOMSTICK!"

I cannot tell you how many times I've uttered those words since I first saw The Raimi Brothers' masterpiece "Army of Darkness." I've never spent much time among primitive folks, and I've certainly never owned anything worthy of calling a "boomstick," but the line tattooed itself into my brain. And therein is the brilliance of the Evil Dead films.

The three Evil Dead films have roughly 100 lines of dialogue throughout them, but damn near every one of them is a perfect catchphrase. It's truly an insane ratio. The goofy script and the perfect delivery by Bruce Campbell are a perfect combination. Lines that would sound kind of stupid delivered by anybody else—"You're going, DOWN!"—are pure poetry coming from Campbell.

Watching the Evil Dead movies—or let's be honest, just "Evil Dead 2" and "Army of Darkness"—has become a rite of passage for high school kids. Everybody I know from the age of 15-50 has packed into a friend's living room and watched the films, shouting along to favorite lines. It's pretty groovy.

Instead of explaining the plot of the film for all of the uninitiated, why don't we let Ash Williams do the honors?

There are so many things to love about the trilogy (I do not consider the abomination from 2013 to be canon)—the "special effects," Ash's one-liners, the legit moments of terror, the cheeky jokes, etc. For me, it never gets any better than when Ash's own hand, which he had to lop off after it "went bad," gives him the finger. Groovy.
