22-year-old Fordham University student passes away weeks before graduation

On Sunday, April 14th around 3am, a 22-year-old Fordham University student fell from the bell tower on the school's Bronx campus. Sydney Monfries had gone inside the Keating tower with a group of friends to take photos, as a rite of passage before their graduation on Saturday, May 18th of 2019. However, in the process of taking a video for her Snapchat, Monfries fell over 40-feet from the tower through the opening landing and was immediately knocked unconscious. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they struggled to get the stretcher through the narrow staircase and her body needed to be airlifted through the window in order to get her into the ambulance. Unfortunately, Monfries was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local New York hospital.
