What is a person to do when they're totally covered in ink and want to make a change? Well, there's always a blackout. Blacking out tattoos has become increasingly popular over the years, as it allows collectors the opportunity for new ink without laser or an unsuccessful coverup. If done correctly, blackout tattoos can look extremely clean and aesthetically appealing, which is what draws many collectors to them—even celebrity artists like Kat Von D.
This weekend, celebrity tattoo artist and makeup mogul Kat Von D showed off her new artwork, which is a blackout on her left forearm. The tattooing was done by HoodeTattoos, who specializes in blackout tattooing out of Philadelphia.
In the post, Von D raves about her new work, sharing "Can’t believe it only took him 1.5 hours - and it’s the most consistent, true black I have ever seen!"
Prior to the blackout, Von D had a black-and-grey sleeve on her left arm and had already covered several of her first tattoos with geometric work. HoodeTattoos left some of the geometric work showing through, which adds contrast to the design. It's undetermined whether Von D will continue blacking out surrounding tattoos and only time will tell.
