On April 1st, 2019 a suspected poacher entered the Kruger National Park in South Africa in an attempt to target poachers. However, instead of walking out with a coveted horn, his skull and his trousers were the only remains recovered after a brutal animal attack.
According to the local police, an elephant attacked and killed the poacher, with his friends taking his body to the road so that a passerby could recover it in the morning. However, when a search party was sent out and the rangers scoured the park, they weren't able to recover the body. Rangers believe that the body was eaten by a pride of lions and in a statement made by the managing executive of Kruger National Park, this incident shows the dangers of illegally entering this park on foot.
The other poachers were arrested on Wednesday by the South Africa Police Service and will face charges of possessing fire arms without a license, conspiracy to poach, and trespassing.
