Roman Reigns proves to be a fighter both in and out of the ring

Joe Anoai is a 33-year-old professional wrestler better known by his WWE ring name, Roman Reigns. Prior to joining WWE RAW, Reigns briefly played football with the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars for the NFL. Following his stint in professional football, Reigns joined WWE in 2010 under the developmental territory FCW. Then, in November of 2010, he was promoted to the main roster and performed alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. He worked in this trio until June of 2014, when he became a singles competitor.

But, in addition to fighting in the ring, Reigns has worked to overcome battles outside of WWE. In late 2018, Reigns was scheduled to wrestle Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship title at the Crown Jewel Event. However, Reigns backed out days before the match and announced his hiatus from WWE RAW by revealing that he'd been battling leukemia for the past 11 years.

On October 22nd, Reigns announced his hiatus from WWE RAW, stating: “My real name is Joe and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years — and unfortunately it’s back,” Reigns said. “And because the leukemia is back I cannot fulfill my role, I cannot be that fighting champion and I’m going to have to relinquish the Universal Championship.”

But, a little over four months after announcing that his leukemia had returned, Reigns is back in remission. On February 25th of 2019, Reigns announced that he is cancer-free and he's back in WWE. Reigns addressed his status on "Monday Night Raw," exclaiming “The good news is I’m in remission. We fight. We overcome. We believe. So with that being said, the Big Dog is back.”

Reigns hasn't officially confirmed that he will be attending WrestleMania 35, only saying “we will get to that later," to his fans. Only time will tell if Reigns will be returning for his fifth WrestleMania, which will take place on April 7th at the Metlife Stadium.
