On September 6th, 2019 the film Zeroville arrives in theaters. Zeroville stars and was directed by James Franco, and is based on the book of the same name by author Steve Erickson. The film follows Vikar (played by Franco) and is set in Hollywood in the late 1960s, showcasing the changing industry of film. The film rights were first obtained by Franco in 2011 and the filming began in October of 2014. However, it took five years for this production to get a release date.
The film features an all-star cast, including Seth Rogan, who's worked with Franco on a number of projects including Freaks and Geeks, Pineapple Express, This Is the End, The Interview, The Disaster Artist, and Sausage Party.
Other notable actors in Zeroville include Will Ferrell, Megan Fox, Jacki Weaver (who also appeared in The Disaster Artist), Danny McBride (Pineapple Express, This Is the End, Sausage Party, The Disaster Artist), Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), and Craig Robinson (Pineapple Express, This Is the End, Sausage Party).
And while we're obviously interested in this film for its star studded cast, the true costar to Franco is his head tattoo. In both the film and the novel, Franco's character has a large tattoo on the back of his head, which depicts actors Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift from the 1951 film, A Place in the Sun. The tattoo plays an important part in the physical characterization of the film's leading man and even took center stage in the recently released poster.
